Food & farming

How high does it go? What’s above the clouds? Does it go to space? Is it still growing? Should we wear coats?
Playing in the giant’s garden
A beautiful jungle of garden plants. Flowers I can lie on. Stalks I can climb. Will there be giant insects too?
Everybody needs food. As the world’s population grows — it’s expected to reach 10 billion by 2050 — the demands on our planet will too.
This is a huge sustainability challenge. The food and agriculture industry is one of the largest users of land and water — and a major contributor of greenhouse gases. We can already see climate change impacting lives, livelihoods, and food security.
So, how can we feed the planet sustainably? We believe that technology and AI hold the answer.
By helping us to reduce waste between farm and fork. To grow more with less. To protect harvests. To create new ways of feeding people nutritious, delicious, yet sustainable food that preserve its deep-rooted cultural value.
And these portfolio companies are taking on the challenge.

What is your vision for the future of farming?
By integrating technology and AI we can make agriculture more sustainable, more autonomous, and more efficient — so farmers and their families can continue to live on the land, and we all have enough food to eat.

If we look ahead to the next 100 years, what kind of transformation do you see happening within the food industry?
I think AI will be transformational for this industry. There's a cultural value in food. It means something to people, they gather around a table, they share a meal. How do we use AI to give people even more of that — at a cost and efficiency level that's only getting better and better? I think that's exciting.
